This class starts with pilates-based conditioning. A somatic approach gives dancers the time and space to connect into their bodies throughout a series of balancing, strength-building exercises that move from lying down to sitting and kneeling to standing. Principals from this portion of the class are then applied to a ballet barre. Combinations are simple and many are repeated from week to week so that dancers can elevate their heart rate, moving steadily from one exercises to the next with minimal, efficiently-delivered feedback. Class finishes with some waltzing and turning and a bit of jumping.
